Prelim Evaluation
Did you plan your magazine? If not, what have you learnt about the importance of research and planning?
I did not plan my magazine as much as I should have for my prelim task. This means that I had to work out what I was doing as I went a long, which meant that I the end I ran out of time. This means that my contents page has not been done in as much detail as the front cover, as I ran out of time but this means that I will know to be careful of my time in the future.
What technology did you use to complete the task and how did you use it?
I used serif page plus x6 to create my prelim tasks. At fist this software was confusing and difficult to use but as I played around with it more and more it got easier to understand. I used the different tools on the software to get the picture how I wanted it and placed in the way I wanted it. I also used the tools to get different colours throughout the magazine front cover, including the different colour texts and the fonts I chose, to make it look how I wanted it to look.
Did you encounter any difficulties? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them?
At first I found the software really difficult to use, and quite confusing. This was because I hadn’t used it before, although the more I used it, the more I began to understand it. I had to ask for help from my teachers sometimes to find out new things about the different told but I gradually learnt how to use it on my own.
How successful was your magazine? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?
The first part of my magazine, the front cover, was quite successful, this is because I took my own photo, and managed to cut around it and placed it how I wanted it on the cover. I also chose the fonts I liked, along with colours I wanted to use. Although next time I would work on my timing, because I spent too long working out the software and completing my front cover, that I ran out of time for my contents page. This is why my contents page is completed as a rough design and layout of how I wanted it to look, and not finished with colour, pictures, or other details.
What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework, do you think?
From completing the prelim task I have learnt how to easily use the software now, whereas in the beginning I struggled using it. I have also learnt to work on my time management skills in the future because this means that I will be able to complete all of my work to a better standard and have it finished, rather than just  layout of the contents page.
