Name ideas:

  • Noise
  • Listen
  • Dynamics
  • Sound
  • Replay
  • Atmosphere

The name I have chosen to use for my magazine is ‘Atmosphere’. This is because I think it will interest readers, to find out more what it’s about. It also links in with the theme of my magazine because it relates to live music, and festivals, with the atmosphere they have. I am also using this name because it is different to normal names of magazine and it adds an edge to mine.
    Atmosphere
This is what I want my magazine name to look like and the font I will use. I have chosen to use this font because, like my name, it is quite different to usual magazine fonts used. Although it is different it is still bold and eye catching and the bold, black letters will stand out on the silver and white background.

    MASTHEAD
For my masthead I will use the font above. This is because it is a bold font and will also show up well on my background. It is also quite unique for a masthead.

For the font used to write the articles etc. I will use this font. This is because it is not as bold as the others so will be clear to read. It is also different to small and unclear fonts that are normally used in things like magazines and newspapers. This font is also quite modern, which is how I want my magazine to come across to the reader.

Q magazine audience analysis and research

The majority of Q magazines readers are male, with them being 66.2% of the audience. This means that the editors would have to be able to interest male and female readers, as the split is not too drastic. This may be why they use a lot of female artists that men and women would like, but also do different issues of male artists or boy bands which would interest women more than men. This means that they would be able to interest both gender of readers.

The statistics also show that 83.8% of the readers at 15-44 years of age. This is quite a large age range with people that would have different interests and tastes. This means that the magazine would have to include young and recent artists to interest the younger group of readers, but also slightly older artists that the older readers would know. For example Q have done this by including currently popular artists like Adele, but they have also included slightly older, although extremely well known artists like Madonna and John Lennon.

Each issue usually focuses on one artist mainly, for example after Amy Winehouse’s death in 2011 an issue was dedicated to her. Each issue usually has a picture of the artist they are focusing on covering the majority of the front cover page. The front page usually doesn’t have any other pictures on the front cover, making sure that the main focus is on the celebrity on the front.

In my magazine I am aiming for the same type of audience. Although I think there is a gap in the market for a magazine of this type that is aimed mainly at females of this age group. I think that by aiming my magazine more at females, my magazine will sell more. Although, I do not want to appeal only to females, so to do this I will use more neutral colours and I will still use celebrities that will appeal to men and women.

I plan to use neutral colours like black silver and white in my magazine, as I aim to target males and females. I would also like to focus my magazine on a range of celebrities that would interest everyone.

Colour schemes

There are many different colour schemes that you could choose from to create your magazine:

All of these colour schemes would be good for a magazine. But the one that suits my magazine the best is the last on, with silver, black and white colours. I have chosen to use these colours because I think the black writing will look really bold and clear on my silver and white backgrounds. This is also because these colours are very neutral, and therefore will appeal to men and women. Even though there are not bright colours in this, the silver adds a slight edge to it. These colours also relate well to my genre because I will include recent celebrities and also slightly older ones, so that my magazine will appeal to all age groups. These colours will appeal to my target audience and will go well with the look of my magazine.
