Evaluation questions

  1. In my magazine research and planning I analysed several issues from Q magazine. This is because I wanted my magazine to be quite similar, and be of the same genre as these magazines. There are some things from Q magazines that I have mirrored, and used in my own. One of these things is the genre of music and the artists that they use. I used quite recent artists that would have their music in the charts. I did this because my target audience is young people, and most young people listen to pop music and other popular artists. For example in my magazine contents page, I have written about Justin Bieber and Rihanna. This is because I decided it was best to choose a male and a female artist as my target audience is both males and females, the same as Q. Although one thing I did differently was, in Q magazine they use older artists, for example Madonna. I haven’t used older artists because my target audience is slightly younger than those that Q have targeted. Q have used quite a basic colour scheme, of black grey and red, I have chosen to use a similar colour scheme but I have not used any red in my fonts or logos, or with background colours. This is because I did want my magazine to be slightly different although I have used some things that Q have used. I chose to use this colour scheme because the colours used are quite neutral and therefore it would attract either males or females.

  2. My magazine was designed to represent and attract young people who listen to music in the charts. Although, my magazine does not represent them in a stereotypical way. Stereotypical magazines that are aimed at teenage girls in particular are usually brightly coloured and all about boy bands. Although my magazine is also aimed at boys I didn’t want to fit this stereotype. I wanted to create a magazine with a colour scheme that would attract males and females and also artists that more people would be interested in, rather than just boy bands. I think that my magazine represents this group of people to be different than what the media portrays them to be, I also think my magazine makes them look quite original and different. I want my magazine to represent normal teenagers that listen to music in the charts and read about the most popular celebrities.

  3. When it comes to publishing my magazine I think that the internet and social networking sites will make a huge difference. Over the last few years the music industry has changed massively, because of the internet. With millions of people following artists online and waiting for them to announce their music or new products. Fans of celebrities can also pre order the artists music before it actually comes out. This helps to make a lot of money for the music industry. I think that social networking sites would be a good place for me to promote my magazine. This is because my target audience is younger people between the ages of 14-20. This means that they are likely to be on these sites and often using the internet. This means I could promote my magazine on these sites and the right people would be seeing it.
  4. My target audience is both males and females between the ages of 14-20. I have chosen this target audience because I feel there is a gap in the market for a magazine, aimed at young people and both males and females. I feel like this will attract a lot of people from this group because there are no other magazines that target this specific group of people.

  5. I made sure my magazine would be appealing to my target audience because I chose a neutral colour scheme that would attract males and females. I have also chosen to talk about artists that would appeal to males and females. For example Justin Bieber to attract girls and Rhianna to interest boys. These artists are also current and popular and their music features on the UK top 40 list. I tried to make my magazine as different from stereotypical teenage magazines as possible by mixing genders and targeting such a wide age range.

  6. At first I found it difficult using the software when creating our magazines especially during our drafts. I had trouble with using the software in the exact way I wanted…

  7. Throughout the process of creating our own music magazine I have learnt several things. One thing I have learnt is how important it is that you do good research and planning. This is because it ensures that you know what other magazines in the industry are like. It also means you can see what is popular and what is not, meaning you can mirror certain things from different magazines but also change things that are not popular, or your type of magazine.
